KESENGAWA
Naoya Hatakeyama
Naoya Hatakeyama writes his diary as he travels north to his hometown in Japan after the announcement of the tsunami that submerged the coast on 11 March 2011. He recalls peaceful moments before discovering the extent of the disaster.
Kesengawa is composed of images taken before and after the disaster : it is an intimate documentary and a philosophical exploration of surviving memory at the same time.
After TERRILS, KESENGAWA is Naoya Hatakeyama's second book published by Editions Light Motiv.
Naoya Hatakeyama is considered one of the most important photographers working on the relationship between humans and landscape. He is represented by the Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo. Since 2012, his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Photography in Tokyo, the Huis Marseille Museum in Amsterdam, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Lieu Unique in Nantes.
