Po\u00e8te, romancier et essayiste, il publie son premier recueil de po\u00e8mes, <em>Etincelles<\/em>, en 1945. Engag\u00e9 dans la vie politique de son pays au c\u00f4t\u00e9 de G\u00e9rald Bloncourt, il joue un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l\u2019effervescence populaire qui chasse le dictateur Lescot en 1946. A l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e au pouvoir d&rsquo;un r\u00e9gime militaire, il est arr\u00eat\u00e9 et emprisonn\u00e9 avant son exil pour la France puis pour Cuba. En 1978, il revient \u00e0 Paris et travaille \u00e0 l\u2019Unesco comme attach\u00e9, d\u2019abord au cabinet du directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, puis au secteur de la culture pour des programmes de cr\u00e9ation artistique et litt\u00e9raire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Il re\u00e7oit le <strong>Prix Goncourt<\/strong> de la nouvelle pour <em>All\u00e9luia pour une femme-jardin<\/em>
